A few months ago, I purchased a Baikal izh-18mh in 7.62x39, and I really love it. It's a great little gun.

So, naturally, when I saw it's twin in 223 listed at auction on GP, I figured I'd throw in a bid and see if I could get it for a decent price. No one outbid me and now I'll have 2 poor man's Kipplauf rifles in the safe.

Does anyone else have one of these rifles? What's the twist rate on them and what bullet weights do they like? Any info anyone has on these guns would be appreciated. I haven't been able to find a lot on the net.

These are 1 in 12” twist. They were rebranded by Remington as SPR-18 a couple decades ago and that’s where you can find info on them.

Excellent little rifles. I had a 222 as my "work rifle" way back in the late 90's, shot more animals with that rifle over a 5 year period, than all my other rifles combined - rabbits, goats, pigs, red deer, tahr and chamois. Had the trigger worked by a local gunsmith, and it shot like a dream.
