Does anyone have any hopefully, fact based opinions on this break action single shot rifle? How is the fit/finish, accuracy, trigger, etc. One this I notice is the shotgun-like stock geometry, I doubt that a scope would like up well unless a shooter was using a "heads up" shooting stance. Ellwood Epps sells them.

I picked up a slightly used one in 308 off the E.E. last summer to use as a back up / truck gun. It breaks down nicely into 3 pieces so it will be easy to stow or carry on an ATV.
Very nicely finished, locks up very tight. Trigger a bit on the heavy side but nothing too bad.
Using the iron sights only and shooting S.A. surplus, I found it suprisingly accurrate @ 100 yards at the range, certainly no worse than my Remington 700 BDL 30-06.
Have not tried to scope it yet, if I do I'll have to do some research as the dovetail is not the typical North American size.
I like it, seems to me to be good value.

From what I've read they are accurate,poor/weak extractor and 11mm -3/8"dovetail scope rail like a .22 Guess they never heard of Weaver.50/50 some love them others No.......................Harold

All tip up single shot actions have poor extractors if chambered for a rimless cartridge. A rimmed cartridge is better.
The scope mounting rail is 3/8 and is a bit short. I may mill mine off and install another base. Mine is a 22 so recoil is not a concern but if it was, I would at least do something to provide a recoil stop of some sort. I think they are a much better gun than the NEF guns. Workmanship is at least as good and the design is simpler and more rugged.
As I said, extractors for rimless cartridges are always a bit of a weak point but with normal loads, this shouldn't be a problem.
I like them. Regards, Bill.

Epps has them in 7.62 X 54 R for $200. I was thinking that with all the cheap 7.62 X 54 R ammo around it would be cheap plinking.

A lot of guys drilled and tapped the base for a Weaver rail and then you can actually lock down the rings. Are you sure $200 as most places I come across they were $300-$350? In spite of the Slavic crude finish the Russians can make accurate barrels.................stay way from the combo guns .22-.410 as the barrels arn't even close to being regulated to same point of impact..............a buddy with a trapline has one............JMO...Harold

No, check Epps site, $200 for 762x54 as well as for a couple in .222.

The is also a B-Square 3/8 ring with a recoil pin that would work. You would just have to drill a matching hole at the right spot of the 11 mm rail.

3/8 rings do not work with the 11mm rails> B square makes 11mm rings so make sure you get them. I have used these rifles from decades ago with the same design and they keep working. Even with the extractors on 30-06 or similar. I agree that a rimmed round is better, but it is no big deal if you dont reload them crazy.

I also agree that i like them better then NEF singles.

They have them locally in Red Deer AB in 7.62x39 .............................Harold In a .303 Brit would be nice!

Having a 308 turned into a custom truck for, for shiestz und geigles, 19" barrel, gun kote finish, lop to 13" with limbsaver pad, keeping open sights and a set of the 11mm B squares with a Burris compact 2-7, should be done soon, will report when I can.

3/8 rings seem to work just fine on my 222. Mine are old Redfield 3/4" rings holding a Weaver J4. Reagrds, Bill

Bill with your 3/8 rings - does it center over the bore or is a little offset? i am surprised - usually the 3/8 dont align quite enough

Well, I broke down and ordered one today. For $200 I don't think I can go too far wrong. Third firearm purchased this month. I guess January is boring!

Scope seems centered well enough that I don't care! I like the rifle because it's one of those where I didn't expect much and it's better than I anticipated. Regards, Bill
