This has probably been asked a hundred times before but how's the reliability and fit/ finish of the mp153. I was thinking about getting one but have concerns about adjusting for 3 1/2" goose loads down to 2 3/4" #7 1/2 clay loads? How much is involved with adjusting? Where can I get different chokes for it? Who says buy and who says save for a self adjuster like sx3 or versa max etc. I currently own the Winchester sxp 3 1/2".

I have one, owned it for about a year. I love it. I have only shot 2 3/4 and 3". It wouldn't cycle the really cheap bulk Canadian Tire Winchester loads, but I switched to a little faster 2 3/4 and it worked like a charm. I didn't make any adjustments between 2 3/4 and 3", but all it involves just using the choke wrench to tighten or loosen the gas adjustment. Simple. Fit and finish is good, but not great. All in all a great gun for the money IMO.

Thanks for the info. It's kinda hard to find anyone who owns one around where I live, most guys here are major brand supporters ( Winchester, Browning etc) I like to buy things that nobody around me has.

Got one! Love it! Picked it up for 399 at Dante Sports and you cant go wrong with it at this price. Haven't tried target loads yet but after a couple of hundred round in all sizes in moderately clean hunting environments (boats and fields...no St. Lawrence river mud yet...), I never had a jam and never adjusted the valve. It shoots as fast as my finger will allow.

It gets cleaned after very outing: gotta take care of that investments. Lol

Respect the break in procedure as there are a LOT of machining marks to be polished...

I know it is not an SBE2 or a beretta (had the chance to try both), but to me, who hunts about 10 times a year, it is a good shotgun.

Every thing I hear about them is good, their like the AK of shotguns "Built strong, look like garbage and work every time"

Well my sxp shoots up to 100 target rounds a week from September to January and 100-200 target rounds a week from April to September, then maybe 2-4 boxes of 3" or 3 1/3" duck and goose loads a year, so I'm gonna need a reliable semi. I know for a fact the sx3 can do the job because I know 2 guys who I shoot with and they shoot more than me and have no problems.I'm thinking about the camo one but there's something about the black I like. What's the freight from dante sports to the rock I wonder. Eddycat, what kind of chokes do you use or where can I get them ( extra full, full, modified and imp cylinder).

Freight was 40$ by expresspost including insurance but I am in the same province.

They send by Canada Post so maybe you could try estimate the shipping costs on their website.

Chokes are truechokes or trulock so quite easy to find. It comes with three chokes and they are steel ready. Only ran the full one so far cause it patterned well with was i was shooting.

Went to the range this morning and pretty much shot everything I had at hand: 2 3/4 slugs, steel shot in all shell sizes plus a full box of target load (1 1/8 though) and eveything cycled just fine.

I've had one since 08.

IMHO the MP-153 is the best 3.5" shotgun on the market, for the price.

I have the blued wood model. I broke it in with a case of trap loads. I didn't touch a thing gas setting wise. Between spring and fall hunting I shot 3 cases of trap loads. That fall I shot 4 boxes of 3.5" shells at geese, 3 boxes of 3" at ducks and 8 boxes of 2.75 at upland birds.

Since I purchased it; I have put, on average, a case of trap loads, 4 boxes of 3.5", 2 boxes of 3" and 5 boxes 2.75" (usually #4 or 6) each year. Without changing the factory gas setting. I try to clean it at least once a year, at the end of bird season.....

Because of me I have 5 friends with the same shot gun in wood or synthetic. I have yet to hear of a problem with any of them and their experience is the same as mine......

Cheers!

Love mine. Didn't even really have to break it in as the manual suggests. Shot 2 3/4" target loads almost right out of the box after about 20 rounds. Adjustment seems very easy, haven't had to yet however everyone I've talked to has said that once broken in they haven't had to touch it to cycle anything.

I have had one for about 4 years, and it has never jammed, or malfunctioned ever. I keep my setting in the middle & it cycles 2 3/4-31/2 perfect. Mine came with Max4 camo, and 4 choke tubes....I am thinking about selling it & buying a new gun, but I probably will regret it.

While everyone says they have never had an issue and that they are a great gun is true. I however have had issues. I have had mine since 06. Mine is a wood model. When i got mine i took it out to the range to put a few rounds through it. I pulled the trigger and had a piece of barrel go into my hand. There was a weak spot in the barrel and it let go on the first round. I took it back to where i got it and and they gave me a barrel off of another gun. I again took it to the range. This time the fore end split(could have been from the first incident). Again went back and they gave me another fore end. After that i have had no isses until about a year ago. The back story...Once a week for five years in a row with only missing a couple weeks I put at least 5 boxes of skeet through mine. Sometime I put more than that. Very little did I put less. On top of that I also shot waterfowl every day that I could when season was open. I used every type of shell on the market mostly I used 31/2" for waterfowl. If you do the math I have used over 25000 shells through the gun. I have only had to replace springs in it. I used the original main string for the first 15000 or so rounds. Since then I change it every 5000. For the amount I paid for it and the rounds down range it has been my best shotgun so far. That being said I don't use it as much as I use to as I now have an a400 beretta. I do get jams once in a while but never closed it always fires and then Jams in the open position. That just tells me it is time for a new main spring. I would recommend this shotgun to anyone that asked.
