I'm strongly considerring buying a new O/U and the Baikal is something that intersts me, I'm just starting lower end because it will only see occasional use and it will definitely be taken out duck hunting more then anything. What else should I be looking at?

If your budget is the baikal range buy the baikal. Great gun for the money and the fit and finish isn't so nice that you'll cry if you bang it up. I love all my baikals

Hey man there not the nicest gun to look at and a bit on the heavy side but built like a tank and will likely out last you. Out of all the lower end double barrel shotguns thay get my vote for most durable.

Add my voice to the chorus. Baikals are solid, reliable guns. They're a bit on the heavy side, but that's an asset when hunting migratory birds with heavy loads.

I have 3 Baikals - 12, 16, and 20 ga side-by-sides with open hammers. In the uplands, they're not quite as good handling as more expensive makes/models, but the difference is minimal.

IMO, a Baikal U/O is an excellent choice for a first purchase.
