just recently bought a nice baikal ij-26, and just had a question about the choking. im aware of the separate choke on each barrel, aswell as the tighter than average/modern choking, but the thought of converting it to a shorter, but not quite coach length. mostly to remove the choking to allow for buckshot and slugs. to get to the point is anyone aware of how far back the choking starts on these old baikals?

thanks, V

The ij58 model starts about 1.75" back
Id suggest trying as is. Those old tanks generally shoot pretty well. I never found issues using slugs or buck thru the tighter chokes. Flight control 00b was great thru factory full and mod that were closer to full and fuller

I had one that I wanted for skeet shooting. I took it to Jim Butcher in Clinton, ON and asked him to ream the chokes. He said no, as the chrome lining that they use in their barrels would destroy his reamers. Instad he told me to take 3" off, and sold me a high vis Ray-bar front sight. It broke almost every clay it was pointed at! I closed the opening at the front rib with silver solder, and finished with fine file and very fine sand paper.
