I handled and shot one which far exceeded my expectations. The wood was nicely figured and the blueing was tastefully executed. Shooting with irons resulted in point of aim hits on a rock, from off hand, at, or a bit beyond, 200 yards. In all fairness, a double rifle is intended to be neither a long range rig, nor one suitable for shooting long strings. Typical of the breed, in my limited experience, one trigger was considerably better than the other, in this case the forward trigger broke cleanly with perhaps 4 pounds of pressure, while the rear trigger seemed gritty and heavier. If you want a reasonably powerful, compact rifle for use across moderate ranges, a SXS .30/06 has it's advantages, and the Baikal appears to be excellent value for the money.
