Baiting

What have all of you used for bait on your deer stands ? ( Where legal of course ) Which baits worked the best ?

Just to head things off. Lets not make this a baiting debate. Around here it is a common and legal practice.

Lots of apples. Better yet hunt near some apple trees. I shot a buck under my apple tree last fall.

Apples till it begins to get cold, then we switch to carrots. The carrots last long in low temperatures, where the apples go bad fast.

Wow...where are you buying the apples. If I remember correctly I been paying $4 or $6 for a big bag ( 40lbs approx, I think) from the local farm for windfalls.

In my area there really is no benefit to baiting other than getting them to stop long enough in a shooting lane. To many other mast crops in the area Hickory, oak, beechnut, apple etc. I use natural funnels and intersecting land types to know where to hunt. I see alot of guys hauling apples out to stands seems like alot of work to me, I would rather spend my money on better equip. and my time scouting.
