Is their some place in alberta where I can get a black badge course done? Also what kind of gun should I go for? I have a CZ-52 but I doubt that the caliber is large enough for it to count. If I understand right the gun must be DA/SA or DA only? Also what should I be looking at for gear?

Phoenix range in Edmonton does the black badge course. Not that far for you to come in to town. Give them a shout to find out there schedule.
You need a pistol with a caliber of 9mm or greater.
You can shoot a SA like a 1911 in Standard, or a DA in Production or a completely pimped out rig in open with compensators and scopes. Lots of fun.
If you're in Southern Alberta, there's usually a group shooting in Taber at the indoor range on thursday nights. There are several black badge instructors in that group.
Visit the ipscalberta website. A lot of the sight is members only, but you'll find lots of contacts to answer your questions.
