Ballancing your gun collection against real life

I was focused especially to military rifles,now I am looking for hunting rifles that have great finish and quality,for me a rifle is not only a tool but also an object of craftmanship and art.
I sold all chinese guns with the exeption of Minimauser 22lr

As retirement is about 5 years away I started rearranging my guns and my priorities accordingly.I bought 45acres of hunting land , a quad and have started to focus on good quality practical hunting guns.For example I bought this summer a Sako Bavarian carbine it is a sweet little rifle for deer hunting,accurate,carries like a dream and has that old world style and class it will be one that will be in my collection until I m gone.
 
Sounds absolutely ideal. Nice - I'd love to be in the position to do the same.

I envy your purchase of hunting acreage. Well done. I retired a few years back, still have my quad and along the lines to your Sako acquisition, I recently purchased a 'similar' model in 270 Win that belonged to a friend who is nolonger able to use it.

I shoot my handguns at least twice a week as long as the range is open, and take the rimfires out for a stroll every other day for grouse and such.

The Winchester is perfect as a bush gun, short, rather light, has the right punch for short shots, holds six rounds, lever action... Plus the nostalgia factor; it's been passed on through 4 generations...

Just bought a Mossberg 4X4 in 7mm magnum this afternoon, for reindeer and generally long shots.

I consider it to be balanced enough.
 
As far as the land goes I got lucky there,I was able to get it at less than a third of its value at a County tax sale.If you have the cash land tax sales are the way to go,just do your homework on the property before the sale and you will do alright.

As I mentioned earlier on, getting basically;) 'closer' to the end of my acquiring days, I thought before that day comes, there is one of the more popular calibers I should get. That caliber void in my gun safe was the 270 Win. In an effort to correct that defeciency:p, I purchased a model 3000 Husqvarna in 270 from a gentleman on site, Why not? . Something else I thought I'd like to have:redface: is one rifle, with a Mannlicher style stock. Recently when the Sako my friend wanted to part with came available, once more:redface:, I weakened. Now I have a pair of 270s.

I've given up the buy/sell/swap activity that has consumed a lot of my time over the last 10 years and trimmed my own "collection"...(assortment?)..to about 20 guns total including a couple levers, 4 varmint chamberings and 4 rimfires,only shotgun I own is a 20gauge Win 1300XTR that I've had for 21 years...it's staying. Still too many but I keep looking in the safe and I can't see one that I would part with. I'm having Bill Leeper build me another custom on a Pre'64' M70 and I rebarreled a few 700's for myself. The next few years will see me hunting with a 7 Rem Mag, a 30-06, a 280AI, a 308 Norma and a 338 Fed......that should do it.

Thirty years ago;)maybe but now, ever since we went metric, the eyesight isn't quite as sharp as it once was. In addition, the glass helps with the paper punching and load testing. That's my story and I'm sticking to it:p.

On that topic for use of the irons when the situation and conditions in the field dictate, on a few of my rifles, I've gone to Weaver pivot mounts. They aren't the most popular set-up but as long as the pivot points are snug and the bases clean before the scope is snapped back into place, they've worked great for me.
