I have a Galaxy S4 phone that I use to run Applied Ballistic Mobile. That works great but I have things I don't like:

Not rugged, very fragile.
Big problem reading in bright day light.
Batterie drain too fast.

Does such thing exist:

Handheld, using conventional batteries (9v or AA's) , able to run my mobile app, screen readable in all conditions, rugged, waterproof, with real press buttons (no touch screen).

I would use it at dedicated device for shooting.

I was considering using a tablet with the program loaded onto it. Not sure how practical that would be. I know touch screens are useless in the rain, at least my phone is!
 
I have a iPod touch in a otter box that's dedicated, with a bruntons solar power and reserve kit.
It's waterproof, drop proof, battery last 8 hours and the solar pack keeps a reserve so even at night it can do a full 2.5 charges,
Was cheap enough, small and I got a stick on fold out sunshade usually used on dslrs from London drugs that fits great for extra 8 bucks, so I have never had a problem with not seeming the screen.
 
There are a few out there, but maybe one step further like the Kestrel 4500 Ballistic is something you would be interested in?

Yes, multiple devices is a pain. This is when paying the premium for an all in one is nice.
 
The only downside about a iOS device is that you can't use the bluetooth from a Kestrel to get real time environment updates, you have to manually input the parameters. A droid tablet with the right app + bluetooth kestrel would be pretty badass, but, it's probably cheaper just to buy a Kestrel with a ballistics calculator built in.

Sounds like laminated hard-copy tables would solve your problems ;)
 
You could get a kestrel with Horus or Applied Ballistics. Or go balls out and get a Trimble Nomad with FFS and be done with it.
 
The MilDot master and a specific bullet drop chart works very well in all weather and at any time. Always at least bring one as a backup system in case of your ballistic computer (phone, tablet or specific device) run out of battery.
The Kestrel 4500 with applied ballistic looks to be pretty good. ;)
 
Despite having bought a 4500NVBOLV 3 months ago, I ordered another one with Apllied ballistic.
Should be able to sale to vanilla one locally.
