Ballistol is said that can be use as lube and bore cleaner. How effective is for cleaning bore of metal fouling and powder residues and cleaning after use of corrosive ammo? Anyone tried it? Where available in liquid form in Canada? Thankyou.

I don't use it on my smokeless firearms, but I do use to clean and lube my black powder rifles. It works very well for that :D

I've never seen it in Canadian Tire, just occasionally in gun shops.

Chris.

It works wonders on black powder, not at all on Pyrodex(I just use Windex w/vinegar), and makes a very good lube, bore seasoning, and they say on the can is good for corrosive ammo too. I've never used it on smokeless fouling. You can mix it down to 10:1 water to Ballistol and still use it for cleaning. Also a myriad of other uses. One of the guys on this forum with the user name Icebox sells it. He gets it out of somewhere over east that sells sewing machine stuff. I shoot Cowboy Action with Bob (Icebox). He's a real good guy, and will be able to tell you more about it, and maybe even where you can get it more locally to you. It was invented in Germany about 1909, and is still made there. It's become like the WD-40 of Europe. All natural, there are no warnings on any known toxic effects, and unlike WD-40, I actually believe that claim. So give Icebox a shout, he's located in Prince Albert SK.

I have only just started using it this summer and I am far from being an expert. I shoot almost exclusively black powder and it is one of the best cleaner/lubricator you could wish for. See Short Knife's comments about BP subs. BP shooters try and stay away from petroleum based cleaners. Ballistol is a colloidal mixture, and not a dissolved mixture. There is only a limited range of water/Ballistol mixes that work - usually never more that 1:10. It is slightly alkaline which helps with the acidity of BP fouling. Thus it is very BP compatible.
There is a recent thread on the CASCity website on Ballistol here -

Bear in mind that this post is in their blackpowder section. The only source for Ballistol in Canada is here -

I have ordered from them and the transaction went very smoothly. Ballistol is ultra-safe and can be sent through the mail.

Cheers

Ballistol was the standard German military CLP in both World Wars. I first encountered it during US Army service in West Germany.
Ballistol has been quite popular down here in the US.
