Ballpark $$ to pay for a prohib decent Luger??

A fellow has a decent matching Luger with several magazines for sale. He wants me to make an offer. I have three Lugers: 1. one I bought years ago for parts. It still fired back in the day, but you would have to be inside the barn to hit it; 2. a mismatch, but quite nice. I used it as my range shooter; 3. a really nice all matching with a matching magazine, lifted from a German officer by a local man (a POW) near the end of WW2, when it became known the Americans were about to arrive at the POW camp.

I haven't traded in any other Lugers since then. I offered him $500. He seemed disappointed. He goes to Arizona in the winter, and of course the gun shops down there are hounding him to bring it down, but he doesn't want to face the rigamorole of getting it there.

Can anyone give a ballpark figure? No, I don't have pics, nor have I seen the pistol.

If he wants to sell a prohib in Canada, he's offering it to a dwindling market. Your offer seems fair, unless the piece is in really nice shape, or has some provenance/markings, that makes it rare/sought after.
 
800 would be better, 1000 still good if it is exc, matching and all original.
mags are $$$ also.
The 12-6 market is still good on high end stuff, just look at what guys are paying for 4 in pythons
 
Ok. Thanks for the input! He has a Garand I think we can deal on and maybe I can up my offer, or at least ask him what he expects to get for the Luger.

This is ballpark, maybe a little more... more if one or more of the mags are matching too. Seems like those marked with dirty birds command more than commercial or pre-WWII.

There is significantly less value if it isn't matching or finish isn't very good.
