So this is one of a few I'm looking to pick up as part of a lot sale. Just trying to figure out a ballpark value on the guns I don't know much about. This one is in good condition, stock and barrel are all in good condition with minor sings of use, ie. the odd dent/ding, but nothing large (chips or scratches), still nice blueing on the barrel, but some signs of handling and wear at high contact points. Let's assume the bore is good, it was dusty and I couldn't get a good look at it. The others were all pretty good bores. All numbers match (that I can see on the exterior).

What, without handling it, would be a reasonable offer? I'll get another look at it to confirm the bore, just need to bring a cleaning rod and bore light with me. But when I'd go I'd like to have a rough number in my head to make sure we're on the same page. If he has an inflated value on it I don't want to waste a bunch of time if we aren't even close.

Note:
- It is missing the cleaning rod.

I have seen prices a bit scattered. Virtually new ones are on the 1500-2500 range.
This one looks quite nice. Under 1K . I think if you got it for $6-700, you would be pretty good on it, leaning to the 600 range though.

Thanks, I appreciate the reply, $600 was around what I was thinking from my looking around.

Definitely closer to the $1000 mark if not over, even missing the cleaning rod. Good condition South American contract Mausers have gone up dramatically in the recent years, particularly Brazilian ones.

I have one;

Same condition, perfect bore, it does have the cleaning rod,,,,,,,, but,,,,,, a "non matching bolt" (actually only 43 out, weird) + a bayonet (but numbers don't match the gun)

What's a ball park value on it? (I do not plan on selling, just interested in value)

I'd say in this condition with all matching will be 1200-1400 easy
I paid 1400 for a collector piece in as new condition with matching bayo and leather sling...
One beautiful classy Mauser, you will never find same top quality after 1935 on Mauser rifles

That's nice, I'd say the $900-1000 range.

Well thanks guys, and here I was ready to give him $500 for it, I should have acted faster, now I'm going to have to adjust my offer!

Follow up question, there is another mauser in the lot that is in similar condition but the previous owner has carved his initials in the side of the stock, just under the bolt. It's a large carving, deep and 2 inches square. Can't miss it. Roughly how much would that change the value on a collector? I can't imagine it's good.

I wouldn't get to carried away with your offer.

That rifle doesn't have any accessories and it definitely shows signs of use.

These can be picked up with factory targets, issue slings, muzzle covers, matching number bayos in the $1500 range on up to about $2000 depending on how pristine they are.

IMHO, that's an$750 rifle at best.

If you're planning on flipping it for a profit, you're going to have to wait for a long time.

$1500 for a 1908 in pristine condition with all the accessories? 20 years ago maybe.

The problem with that price of $750 is, that you just don't find such a rifle for that price.

PS militaria sells Brazilian Mauser Mod 1908 for $750+ tax and shipping , which will bring the price to ~ $900, but their rifles are in much lesser condition.

My tentative plan is to keep one for myself and flip the rest to try and cover most of the cost. He's a friend of a friend and no one in the family wants to bother with researching and selling them individually. They are trusting me to make a fair offer, which is why although I could throw $400-$500 at them for it, I'll go higher as it is friends. I will leave room to make some money but I'm not looking to squeeze every penny out of it. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the find, that helps me give my friend an honest ball park figure. Using ####### and US auction sites is a joke for trying to measure value.

There were four of them at the Chiliwack 2019 gun show, march 2019. Three of them went to Kamloops a month later. All three went from Kamloops to Sannich.

The one that sold in Chilliwack was mine. The other three, were priced above $2k and the owners were adamant that they wouldn't come down in price.

I believe they still have them.

At the Kamloops show there were a couple, in similar condition to the OPs. One was on a table a couple down from my own. It was about 90+%, with a cleaning rod and the proper sling, with proper swivels, no bayonet. It sold for $650 and it was a hard sell. Stayed there until the last few hours of the show.

Maybe there's something about the water in Ontario, especially Toronto??? Kidding of course

Don't worry, the water is fantastic.

At gun shows, it always depends on the crowd, most people are looking for bargains, like on a garage sale.

This might be very different when the shows open again.
Have a look at recent prices, SKSs go for $400 nowadays, so do Mosin nagants.

Some of them, not most. The average price on a 90% SKS and M91/30 is realistically around $325. Still a decent premium over purchase price.

M1908 and M1935 Brazilian Mausers, in pristine condition, with all accessories seem to be more prevalent in BC/Alberta than further east.

Maybe because Alan Lever imported thousands and sold them to different dealers all over the west???

I like the prices you're stating though. Just next to impossible to get in our region.

M91, Hex receiver Mosins, in excellent condition or a Finned version may bring $400 or more, but not a run of the mill M91/30.

Over time, that will change of course.
