Ban deer hunt in ontario

Never say never boys. All it takes is a anti-gun/anti-hunting urban judge with little or no common sense (there are many) and the next thing you know there is a hault to the deer season until the Ministy of Natural Resources can gather their info and prove that deer are doing fine and a hunting season is needed.

If they haven't actually done a deer count/survey/census then everything could be on hold until they do. I don't know what Ontario does in the way of deer counts, but many jurisdictions do not have any form of remotely accurate data for certain species and just rely on 'guesstimates'.

They say they can't do proper population counts as they do not have the budget. Anti's know this and they use this tactic.......they know if they get the right judge it might fly.

I know there are some good judges, but there are too many that are very far removed and out of touch with the rest of society and how we average people live. Just take a look at some of the sentences handed down for crimes these days and...................is it really too far of a stretch to see the deer season closed until the MNR can prove there are enough deer to warrant a season and that they have a sound management plan????

I am just getting old and jaded, I know, but I really have no faith in the courts any more. If judges and Crown prosecutors had properly used the numerous sections in the Criminal Code in years past and the sentencing options they had available to them, we wouldn't be in the position we are now with the perceived need for firearms control.

Nice how these groups throw numbers around like how little hunters contribute to the economy as compared to birders, berry pickers etc. Read an article in Outdoor Canada a couple years back how the towns in northern Ontario are suffering because the American hunters are staying away since the spring bear hunt ban. They have been replaced by Eco-tourists who pack their own peanut butter sandwiches and contribute little to the local economies. It's about time there were rules for accuracy when throwing around numbers like this, as few have time to check them out.

I'm reading that Bunny Hugger (COHA) website. It astounds me as to how much these people are out to lunch.

I F***NG HATE BUNNY HUGGERS!!!

Lucky for these people I'm not allowed to hunt hippes/hugger/vegans etc...

I'd cook up the livers with a nice bottle a Chianti!!

I seriously doubt this will fly, but these groups keep popping up. They don't know what they're talking about. Let these guys have their way, release all captive animals, no hunting, no eating or hurting ANY animals, that's what they want. Imagine the disaster that would be. Crops would be destroyed, car accidents would skyrocket, most of the animals would die painful, horrible deaths, their rotting corpses would breed nasty diseases that would affect both humans and animals. Imagine how long little Fifi the poodle would last out in the wild. Honestly, these guys need to cut back on the wacky tabacky. What world are they from, anyways?

I think they don't understand that the deer have few natural predators left & the only thing keeping the herds healthy is hunting. They would probably counter with breeding & reintroducing the the predators, at least util one of those said predators showed up in their neighborhoods. I am not a hunter & i live in hippieville but even from way down here anyone in touch with reality knows a hunt ban would be really stupid.

Just when my blood pressure returns to a healthy level after the "Martin-Miller Hangun Ban Love-In", we have this. The Handgun Ban proposal really kicked me into action, and while this is even more "off the wall", it too has made it more clear who the enemy is. Thanks for posting.

I am all for ensuring safety by enforcing safe storage and handling requirements, and for responsible management of wildlife, but I do not equate animals with people, nor do I link the deaths of worthless gang members with the firearms I own. Sadly, it seems that it is the insulated residents of our large cities (Toronto primarily) who make the moral and ethical decisions. Maybe if they knew where their meat came from and shoveled their own snow they would be less disconnected from the world.

What would happing to the deer after a few years of no hunting? Would CWD start to increase? Does CWD kill deer?

I can't see this happening there's way to many deer hunters, the mrn would loose a lot of money.

The same thing that happens to every other species that has no predators to control their numbers. For a while they would flourish, then they would either eat their food supply until the area was bare then starve, or a disease would wipe out the whole herd. Wonder what the antis would say when they look out at a pile of rotting carcasses 10 000 strong & no dear to be seen anywhere?
