I don't have any goose bands, but have about 38 to 40 duck bands so far. Hunted ducks for many years to have this collection. My son and I enjoy hunting ducks with side by sides shotguns, usually 20, 16 and 12 gauges. We also have harvested a mallard with a tracking device on it. Any collectors out there with either goose or duck bands?

These four mallards I harvested last December 2012 just before the season closed, but no bands, however they sure tasted good!

I have a great many ducks bands and maybe 7 or 8 goose leg bands, plus a pair of plastic leg collars.

The goose bands were all taken in Ontario.

My most interesting bands were a band taken from a 12 year old drake Canvasback at Longpoint on Lake Erie and a band from a Blue-Winged Teal drake shot in Central Cuba ... banded in Wadena Saskatchewan. Most of my bands were from Mallards, but have some from Black Ducks, Woodies, a Widgeon, a Pintail and a Lesser Scaup.

I've never hunted any ducks or geese, these are for tracking purposes I assume?
That's correct. Under the number stamped onto the band information is recorded about the duck or goose...............location of where the duck was banded, species, gender, age, etc. The band number can be phoned in, I believe it is still Washington, D.C., where information will be given to the hunter on the birds history.

Back about 30 years ago my father shot a Canvasback drake that was dyed pink and was banded. Story goes the bird was banded and dyed pink so the bird could be pick out of a flock to watch it's daily habits. My father hunted duck for 60 years and was a taxidermist for over 50 years. This was the only pink duck he has ever seen. It hung on the wall in his display room for 30 years.

Good grief! Get those beautiful guns off the snow!!!

I see you are a gentleman of wealth and taste! Side-by-each shooters usually are...! The scum of the earth down at the gun shop just about ruined my marriage last year with a dreamy 28 guage shotgun like that - and all it would cost was $1600.00 and my marriage. It was the worst decision I ever made, HAR HAR HAR! And it took a helluva long time to make!

Next time I am going to buy the gun!

Beautiful shotguns. Is the top one a Bernadelli? I really enjoy my old Beretta 409.
No, it's a Purdy, a purdy nice gun. It's a Spanish made shotgun, but I cannot remember the name...............old age. I picked it up for a song about 10 years ago. My son had dropped many ducks and geese with it.

The second or bottom shotgun is a Fabarm Beta IV, chambered in the 12 gauge, 30 inch barrels. Have you collected any bands over the years while hunting migratory?

Beauty. You use a 20 gauge eh? I have wanted to try my ithica skb sxs 20g for ducks. What do you use for in your. 20g for ducks?
It took 3 and 2 3/4 inch, and was choked at IC and Mod. Shot steel, bismuth and tungston out of her..............she is a dearly departed shotgun which was sold about a year ago.

Lol...you had me there for a fraction of a second .... "Purdy...no way....oh wait, there's more". :)

I don't do much migratory bird hunting. I did when I was in Manitoba, but there aren't many opportunities around my neck of the woods. I have to admit that some nice grain fed duck and goose taken with a SxS sure is appealing!

Not a lot of banded birds here in BC,I've shot 12 or 14 over 45 years of duck and goose hunting(2 $100 green reward bands). All the banded birds were mallards, the local Interior birds were all banded within 200K of here. The mallards I shot on the Coast when I lived there were all banded in Alberta, meaning they had crossed the Rockies to winter in SW BC.I also have shot a number of banded black brant.Invariably they originated from the Yukon Delta in Alaska or the Coronation Gulf area of the Canadian Artic. Mur

I really like your collection of bands and your guns. Well done!
I shoot a LOT of ducks and geese each fall, but only have collected 4 or 5 bands over 40 years. I think it depends on where you live. There are a great many birds here and nobody is banding them that I am aware of.
