I know you get what you pay for but I am looking for a cheap solution to a problem I've had many times. My 3X9 changes its point of impact when I shoot at different powers. ( It's going in for repair )

I have a muzzle loader that needs a scope so I would like to put a straight 4X or preferable a 6X. Bushnell Banners seem to be what I am looking for.

Are these China scrap or will they at least hold their zero and not screw up. I only need to shoot deer out to 150 yrds +/- so optical clarity does not require me to see 22 cal bullets holes on a 500M target.

Have any of you give the fixed power banners a good testing ? If so what have you disccovered.

I've had a 3x9 banner on one of my muzzleloaders for 5 seasons now. Has always held zero and performs well. I like it as its on my bush pushin' gun so I didn't want to put anything to expensive on it.

I bought a Bushnell Banner (6-24x) maybe 5 years ago, put it on my HMR. Might have been the crappiest scope I've owned. (and I've owned some stinkers :) ) My ONLY experience is with that one though, so take a look the ones in the power range you're after and decide for yourself. I'm currently on a Vortex kick, bought 2 this year. A Viper HS for my .223 varmint rig, and a Crossfire II for my .22lr. Thrilled with both.

I'd guess you can't go wrong with a fixed power scope.

Usually much much better optics than zooms in the same price range, and less to go wrong.

They typically keep zero better too, from what I've read. (lots of gun writers suggest 4x scope for 100-200 yards, and 6x for 200 up to 350 or 400)

Have you considered Hawke optics for a budget scope?
They seem to really like them and sell lots at my local store, although I have no personal experience other than looking through a couple in store, but have read lots of positive stuff for the price online.

They also have a Hawke 4x32 as well as 4x40.

I have two of them on medium sized calibers rifles. I don't think they would do so well on a large caliber such as 300 mag, but do well on smaller rifles for their light gathering abilities in such conditions as bush hunting and low light conditions at dusk. Its not something I would use for precision shooting.

I've had a banner on my 17 HMR for about 5 years, lost zero once for some reason but has done an adequate job. A buddy has one on his muzzleloader and has held up very well on it.

If you find a used Weaver K4 from the old days, (made in the U.S.A., from steel) it will probably be in good working condition. And that being so, it will serve well for the purpose you describe, and outlast the modern Banner. If you can get it for less than $100, take it.

I have a BSA scope fixed power. Its a 2.5x20 but held up on my air gun a 22 mag 50cal ml and 4570. Cheap and never lost a zero. I got it at airgun source in peterborough. I believe they have a 4x as well
