Found hanging in barn since...... it was put there I guess.
A Ross bayonet which I know little about

Too bad bubba found it first. Badly ground blade with lots of rust. Proably used to slaughter the hog.

Comments/opinions anyone.

Well, Dave,

I've seen worse. The rust don't look to be really deep, it can always been cleaned. The value is a bit gone, but since it cost you nada, just keep it.

Like me with my Mauser bayonet, you'll just have to get a rifle to fit it. :)

My wife wasn't too happy with that suggestion.

Well, the interesting thing is that though it's had an edge ground onto it, the point hasn't been sharpened. It's still got some value to it. Get a ross now to match it!

Edit - the mkII bayos are for the MKIII rifle, the MKI bayo is for the MKII;)

Nice score for free!

Was that from a member of your family?

That bayonet fits one of the Mk II military rifles-you can tell by the little tube where the muzzle goes through. I'd say 1905 action but I'd get a blast from...you know...;)

Ross MkI(pattern 1908) bt for the short Ross MkII (1905 action). These bayonets never had the point officially sharpened. Made Dec. 1909.

Thnaks guys. One of the things I'd like to do around here is search some of the barns. Lot's of farming here with a ton of abandoned or non working farm sites. I know of one place where there is an Indian motorcycle basket case. Some day I just may get enough time to go ask the right people for permission to look. Just dreamin" I guess, but a few years ago I did get a Long Lee with only the forend shortened from an outbuilding on a farm that wasn't being worked. Imagine..

Nice bayonet. Great find. I like exploring old abandoned buildings (with permission of course) cause you never know what you will find. Most of the time I find cow manure but my fingers are crossed that some day I will find a keeper.
