Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone had one of these actions and what they thought of them. I was thinking of using one for a 6 mm BR build.
Thanks in advance for all of your input

Cheers,
Mark

Any particular discipline you plan to shoot your 6BR in?

If going for a single shot action I would opt for the shorter, heftier P model personally, unless of course you already have a stock inletted for a Rem action that you want to pop it in.

I have two and they are great. For serious bench I think I would consider the P as above.
But the S's I have with Gaillard bbls shoot a lot better than me with the 6 BR at 1/4 MOA
when I can do back to 500 yds. My best being 3/4 at 400. Either way I do not think you can go wrong. But the S in not quit a drop in, takes a little work.

Both the Barnard S or the P are great value for the dollar.I built on the S in a Shehane Tracker Indian Paint laminate. The "taper" on the S to the tang differs a little (higher, less taper) than a Rem 700 and remains "proud" in a 700 standard inlet.
You can hang a Jewell Trigger off the S if you're seeking BR type tigger break.
They are strong three lug action ,but the shorter throw gives a little harder lift to bolt over a 2 lug. Some BResters might find this disconcerting, but on a 21lb F Class build,it disturbs the rifle in the bags less than a typical LV weight.
They are good to go IMHO .

I have one

The rifle WAS a 6 ppc, recently converted to a 6 BR, I found the bolt lift surprisingly heavy but the action worked great besides that. If you plan on cycling through rounds a fast as you can for quick repeat shots, laff, you might be a bit miffed.
I sold my previous BR and didn't use the PPC much , hence the switch.
It shot well enough at the Sierra match at 300 yds to get me 57 bulls out of 60 shots..... The guy above me here ONT 0001 beat me with 60 (bugger)

I've yet to shoot it as a BR, I'm hoping to get out with it this weekend but i'm still waiting to get the proper Scope rail for it.

I got the stock and action from Ian at Robertsons

Ice-Pick,

The tape didn't do much to hide your S#...LOL

Might wanna try black next time.

Why didn't you order a rail from Ian when you bought the action?

When I got the action I got 2 seperate pieces, you can see em in the pic.
I didn't need any elevation then. Now it's a BR and I'm gonna be using a 2 piece N/F 20 moa mount and I need a 1 piece rail due to the spacing of the feet on the 1 piece.

I ordered it from Ian. I was told it was shipped Mon or Tuesday, hoping to see it tomorrow so I can get it together for Sat. match.

There is a noticable difference in weight between the P and S. the difference is in the receiver diameter 1.45 for the P as opposed to 1.35
P weighs 48oz
S weighs 40oz

I shot Ont0001 S action and the trigger was crisp and broke clean. The harder bolt lift can be offset a bit by an aftermarket bolt from prone2success (website) but your back to adding more weight.

I find the comments on the bolt lift curious.

I have a Barnard P with a .308 boltface, it shoots a 115gn Berger VLD .25cal bullet from a 25-243AI case with 48gn of RL19.

I love this action, and the bolt lifts with my baby finger, the lightest one I have used to date.

I think the P and the S are set up a bit different with the P having a longer throw making bolt lift considerably easier. This is my understanding anyhow.

I have used a P but cannot comment on first hand experience with the S.
