Barnes 180gr. .30-06

I have loaded 150's , but figured I would pass on a hint anyway. Allow a bit more jump to the lands than you would with other brand of bullets. The reason is these barnes bullets require it to get going, and this will also make 'em shoot better. :)

The all time classic powder for the 30-06 is ................IMR4350.
From 165 to 200gr bullets it's very versatile, I know there are lots of other powders but just stating something has worked for a long time for many shooters.

I beg to differ. All time classic powder for 30-06 is H414. At least for 150 gr bullets.

Out of the Lyman book for the Barnes X 180 grain, the best load for them is RX19 52.0 grains with a fps of 2336 and max grains is 57.0 with a fps of 2627

I'm shooting 168 gr TSX bulelts over 58.5 grains of H4350. Very accurate in my gun and running just over 2800 fps. My son will be shooting der this fall and then plains game in Africa next summer with it.

I don't think you will get your best performance out of 180 grain x bullets in the -06. I'd consider a 168 or 165 - i think you'll find that'll rock anything's world and give you better trajectory. I know 180's are the traditional 'heavy' loads in the -06, but you always want to go 'one size' lighter in a barnes x bullet than you would in a leaded bullet.

I use 4350 and 168 grain tripleshocks, and they're mooseslayers.

I've got the barnes the barnes 180gr. tsx already. I have some IMR 4831 on hand, but I also just got some Varget and was wondering new anthing about loading 180gr. with varget.

I loaded the 180 gr. tsx's with 55gr. IMR 4350 and at 100 yds. i was stacking shots with both my Ruger #1 and my dads Remington 760. We got drawn for Moose in Duck Mountain Provincial Park, Manitoba.

We shot a moose last week. First time we ever went moose hunting and we got a small bull. From 200 yds. we shot him twice in the shoulder went down and never got up, no lungs to be found.

Hey!!! Congratulations bud!!!!!

Those barnes bullets do a number on game don't they :) I still think you'd be better off with a 168, but i'm sure glad to hear you got a chance to try out the 180's on 'the real thing' :D
