Barnes Buster Bullets

legal for use in British Columbia?

  • It is unlawful to use full metal jacketed, non-expanding, tracer, incendiary or explosive bullets for hunting or trapping game

Don't know about the legality of them for hunting. They aren't designed to expand, so I'd say that it is not legal to the letter of the law....Athough solids DO work for hunting and guys that carry 45/70's for bear defense could argue they aren't hunting....Not that CO's check ammo with any great regularity, though. Maybe for waterfowl...

HMMMM large, heavy flat point, that doesn't expand much but drives deep or completely through animal, i don't think that has been tried before. I'm sure this new approach will be very costly for the folks that rely on advertising to buy bullets. Oh wait, it's coming back to me, the buffler hunters of the 1800s used Sharps rifles because the bullets expanded and went right through big buffs. Oh, and what about the hardcast LBT LFN and WFN bullets,HMMMM

A 230gr Buster that would fit in a 45ACP might be a nice option for those that carry 45 ACP's or 45-08's for wild animal defense. I've yet to find a good cast bullet with a big flat meplat that fits in a 45 ACP case and feeds well....But I dont' cast my own, so options are limited.

bullet barn or oma bullets, do they make a hardcast you could use for your 45acp?

Bullets that fit, yes. Bullet shape I want, not really.:) I have been planning on getting into casting for some time, but it's just one more thing to take up my time....And I've got thousands of bullets just sitting waiting to be reloaded.:p

Gatehouse

I've got a couple boxes of 400gr and load them for my M94 Timber in 450 Marlin. Very accurate and hard hitting. I had to put a range bull down in the fall, shot was placed between eyes at 15 - 20 paces on a bit of an angle, bullet exited above point of shoulder on right side!!!!! Thats a lot of bull (pun intended) to pass through.

I will pack this combo as backup for griz hunts and when packing into high country during the summer.

I have a browning B-92 44 mag with a type of micro-groove rifling. It doesnt do well with cast bullets, These barnes busters seem like they would be a cats ass for that little rifle. But with the cost, maybe im better off screwing a ballard rifled 45LC barrle on the 92 and getting some cheaper hardcasts...hm

Perfectly legal due to the wide flat meplat on the bullet which displaces/disrupts large wound cavities compared to spitzer style FMJ bullets that just zip thru producing very insignificant wound cavities.

I've looked at these before they do nothing that a hard cast WLNGC can do and cost so much more.

If I was going to go to something like this in my 45-70 I'd load 350gr Swift A-Frames and you won't get me to spend the money to use these in a handgun WFNGC's or WLNGC's give exactly the same performance at a fraction of the cost...
