Barne's garbage - disregard

I'll stick with my chrony. There are to many variables involved to make splat testing credible IMO.
Absolutely agree.

I have tried my own "splatology" experiments, using two completely different .38 cal. big bore airguns, and by simply changing which manufacturer's lead balls are used, will pretty much render the results inaccurate.
A change from swaged balls, to cast balls will really skew the resuts.

Anyone that has actually compared such splats against chrony readings will know that the accuracy of the chart quoted is extremely optimistic at best.

eh. People got along without them for a long time. There is nothing wrong with having another precision measuring device around though, don't get me wrong.

By the way, you do realize this is to do solely with relatively soft balls from airguns. :)

No offence was intended in my last post and none is now,,, Splat testing is often promoted on prominent airgun forums (which I no longer frequent BTW) as an accurate method of speed testing airguns of all calibers. I don't think it a coincidence that the ones promoting the test often have modified guns that shoot fantastic speeds that are beyond the natural laws of the universe.

If you really want to know how fast your shooting; a Chrony is the best way to test...if your testing inside; a light source is needed, as well as a 9 volt battery adapter to 110 volt to eliminate false readings.....KEN.
