BARNES LOAD DATA 223 70gr TSX

According to the link, Barnes are claiming a 1:12 twist for a 70 gr TSX; I call BS! I couldn't get 53 gr TSXs to stabilize in a 1:14 .22-250, and the 70 gr TSX boat tails aren't going to be any shorter. I'd be surprised if they shot in anything short of 1:9.

Based on the H-4895 data in the link, I would start with 20.0 grs of IMR 4064 and work up from there.

boomer... i agree with your "bs call". i have a box of barnes 70gr tsx and it says right on the box 1:7 or 1:8 twist. i've heard of guys shooting 69's with a 1:9 but those are much shorter than the barnes. (i have those to) My tikka has a 1:8 twist and they shoot very fine. My three shot group measured .422". These are the most accurate bullets i have sent through the gun. Next are the sierra 69's and that group was .475".

I want to try my imr4064 with those because that powder works excellent with the 69 grainers and i'll save my varget for the 55's. It's acurate and gives and seems to give better velocity. I got 2900 fps out of those 69's. Have not chronographed the barnes tsx yet.

I used them in a custom 1-8 pacnor 3grove barrel on my 700 . It would stabalize them no problem I used Varget , 4064, 3031, RL15 the best I could get was .95 inch with 3031 . If you want to try some I have 33 left PM me they would be a great deer getter
