I am using a rugerM77 v bull barrel, got some 55 gr barnes MPg (multipurpose green) I thought I would try them out so I had some once fired brass all nice n tumbled clean.Varget was my first choice for propellent.I loaded up some at 31gr of varget.Went outside to try a shot and it was tumbleing at 25 yrds was right sideways.

So i went back to the loading bench and checked the case length yep it was right on for length aswell as the one I just fired.I thought maybe it is to hot even tho it was a min charge, but primer looks gd and case looks fine.I grabed a bag of brand new brass Win brass I took two out and neck sized one and just chamfered the other loaded them both up with varget 31gr and check with mic the overall length right on 2.350.Out i went and two bangs later i have two more bullet hole right sideways.

At this point I am not cerain wtf is goin on.So I get out the gun vice clean the gun with cr10 and then oil and swab out the barrel. It all looks gd so i try another two once shot brass and load one with 31 gr varget and one with 32gr both bullets tumbled again.Well now i am blaming the varget so i get out a can of 4320IMR and load two once fired and two brandnew brass and again they tumble.

Well now I know my gun shoots 55gr federals just fine, and i am pretty sure my gun has a 1-10 twist. So I pull a fed 55 lead out dump the powder into my scale it has 35.5gr of a long stick type powder, anyhow i put it in my new case and sqeeze in a barnes MPg and again a dam tumbler. If i didnt know that the federals have a knurl on them i would blame that but they shoot real gd so I am not sure what is causeing this.Anyhow i loaded up some 36gr varmit grenades and they made a nice clover leaf.So i thought well i got soem hornady 55gr .224 sp leads here i will load up a couple see what happens.

There is no knurl on these hornady's i pinched together a few with 31 gr varget and they shoot just fine, any idea's why the MPG barnes keep tumbling? I tried to seat bullet so it was the col and so it was as close to rifling as possible nothing seemed to help.
Cant beleive it much as i love barnes I cant seem to use the 55gr.Any help thoughts or advice would be much app.

What's your twist rate? If it's 1:12 or slower you may be SOL. Barnes MPG's are long for their weight compared to other bullets, and may not stabilize correctly in slower-twist barrels. These bullets are made for a 1:9 twist or faster.

EDIT: I did some research on the Ruger M77 (the new one, admittedly), and they come with a factory 1:14" twist rate, regardless of barrel contour. You would be SOL with anything longer than a conventional 55 Gr. bullet, unless you've got a custom barrel with a different twist.

Well I do believe you are right it has a 1-14 twist which will only shoot 55gr providing they are leads or copper covered leads as the barnes must be to long to stablize.I mean this thing has been a tack driver allways with any other 55gr lead bullet.I will go to gun shop and get some other leads, I will give this box of barnes to my brother he has a savage long range varmiter model 12 if you can lift it you can shoot it model.
for some reason i thought my gun had 1-10 which might be enough twist to stablize them barnes i will go get some speers or hornady's tonight.
