I just bought a (new to me) Ruger 77 Hawkeye in 375 Ruger. I am in the process of picking a bullet to develop a load suitable for moose hunting. I am considering the Barnes LRX 270 gr. in .375 diameter. That bullet has a plastic tip. The Ruger magazine is not overly long. Will the plastic bullet tips get damaged under the recoil of that rifle? In that case, would I be better off with the regular hollow point TSX ? Please share your experiences.

I had the 250 TTSX tips break off in the mag well at the range. I have used the 270 TSX on a bunch of hunting and it worked perfect. I don't see the need for the plastic tip on a 375 cal bullet

I’ve been loading nothing but Barnes 250gr TTSX in my .375 Ruger for the last few years and have shot three bull moose with them. Never had a tip break off. I’ve noticed a slight flattening of the tip on the other rounds in the magazine but nothing that I haven’t seen with other cartridges or other plastic tip bullets.

I have not had any experience with the barnes but I had some nosler tips break off, I would second the other response that on a 375 the plastic tip is of limited use, the regular tsx would be my choice.
It is nothing but a potential for problems when a tip breaks off in the action.
