so I picked up a box of 130 grain ttsx that I will be using in my 30-06 Benelli R1. My question is, what is the 130 grain ttsx comparable to in lead grain weight? 150 or 165? I am used to 165 grain cup and core. Should these be similar? Anyone have experience with these bullets in a 30-06?

Barnes recommends dropping one or two weight sizes down they like more velocity to properly do their job. If you shoot 180gr lead you could drop to 165-168gr or 150gr as an example. I haven’t shot Barnes through a 30-06.

In my mind that 130 is better suited to the 308. 150s in the '06. Probably more a leftover effect of my preference for heavier bullets.

if that's the case then my .308 will be eating them. they appear the same length as 165 grain partitions I have.

Barnes are different. They recommend the use of lighter bullet because most of the regular twist rate won't stabilise the heavier barnes bullet. If you have a 30-06 with a twist rate of 1:10 you should be ok up to 168 grain in barnes bullet. The barne penetrate and retain their weight better than their lead conterpart making a lighter bullet very efficient, You have to calculate your miller stability rate to know

currently run the 175 LRX out of my 10 twist '06, but have also run the 200 lrx in it with no problems.

have not run the 130's in it, but as posted above, probably a better fit for the .308. In the '06 with barnes, I think the 175LRX at around 2800fps is a great pairing!

Is your concern general shooting/accuracy or hunting performance?

I shoot 110 gr TTSX's out of my 308. Not my go to gun for deer but i have used it and it worked perfect. The 130's in your 30-06 should perform fine.

Over the last few years I’ve caught about half a doz 165 accubonds from deer and elk from my 30-06. They’re all around 110-120 grains when I recover them. So imo a 130 Barnes is somewhere between a 165 and 180 lead bullet.

I just picked up two boxes of 130 ttsx myself for my ‘06. If I can actually get them to 3400 fps the should be a better option then 150’s. Barnes like to be driven fast and my ‘06 can push 165’s to 3k fps but 150’s to only 3050 fps. For my money I would shoot 165’s at 3k before I bothered with 150’s again. I’ve also got a load with 180 tsx at 2850 that have killed a few elk, moose and deer but I think the lighter options are going to penetrate just as well and flatten out the trajectory a bit.
