I have a box of these in .264 in 140gr. Do they work as well on game as some of the newer Barnes offerings? Loading in a newer Steyr in 6.5x55. FS

They do work excelent, the only thing you have to remember that they need min 1800FPS in impact velocity to perform to their potencial.

Never tried the old x bullet, but often read of mixed results in accuracy. If they shoot good for you, I'd not worry about the rest...

IMO they work better than the new ones. People used to complain about fouling, about the petals breaking off and that some rifles didn't shoot them well. Those things were true, but they did open and they did kill game well. Today's TSX is designed to not lose petals, and they don't, but they also don't open well at times.

I have run a few through a 264 win mag.

Muzzle velocity was around 3150 on my chrony and only had one verified result - but penetration was stupendous and I wouldn't hesitate to shoot them where you want reliable results.

They work fine if they shoot well for you.

You have to work up a load from start and the bullet should be .050 off the lands.

I've had great luck with them and recently ran out so if you decide to sell them instead let me know.

That was my luck with the old Xs as well. I never found a load that was good enough to take hunting.

I agree the fouling was a problem but they always shot decent enough out of my rifle (1.5 moa)and killed everything I shot. I have an otters electronic cleaner that took care of the fouling in short order so never worried about that much. Managed to anchor deer, beer, elk and one moose with the old style 140 grain in my swede. Only recovered one bullet.

I' ve since moved on to Nosler Accubonds but can't really say anything bad about the old
Barnes.
