Barnes XLC

The xlc bullets are coated, but the tsx bullets seem to be more accurate in most rifles.Coating a bullet does not necessarily make it any more accurate.

Does anyone use these bullets? Thinking of trying them in my .257 Wby.
I have used the Barnes solid copper bullet right from the beginning when the metallugy in them was creating serious headaches for rifle shooters in terms of barrel fouling and I believe these incidents were more prevalent where the velocities pushed the 3000 f.p.s. envelope or better as in most of the magnums,i.e. .300 Win.Mag. 7MM Rem.Mag. etc. My first kill on a 3 1/2 year bull moose back in 1995 made me a believer and loyal Barnes advocate. That young bull came down the side of a hill after I'd just walked the very same logging road he was now walking away from me so I had a very limited shot in terms of placement. But I now realized that my only chance to anchor this guy was for a head and/or neck/spine shot all the while being 150 yards and gaining. After running from where I'd first spotted him to the next knoll (about 200 yards) in 2" of fresh snow,I offhanded the shot into his neck region and through my 6x Swarovski he dropped out of sight. When I came to where he'd dropped I knew he had not taken another step when hit.Later during the autopsy we found the 180 gr X bullet in tact lodged just under the hide below his eye and dug it out, weighed it on a reloading scale and found it to be 179.2 gr.,virtually no loss of weight after traversing over 21" of thick neck tissue and bone. The handloaded cartridge was a .300 Win.Mag out of a Rem.700 Custom KS left hand.My next 4 kills were all XLC's in .300's again with outstanding results my best being a 340 yard broaside shot on a calf through it's spine where it also dropped at the shot. For those who say the Barnes is inaccurate I have no answer as my own personal experiences are quite to the contrary.Having no experince with the newer Triple Shock's I'd venture a guess that they are as good or better from what I've read.
