I have a Savage 99 with a 24 inch barrel. The load I like is 41.5 of IMR 4064, my manual says this load has 2590fps at the muzzle with a 20 inch barrel. How much more velocity could I expect using a 24 barrel? Hope I don't start any fights thanks

I found the 99 to be quite strong MD, but It does flex a bit. You won't get decent case life at that level.
The barrel length issue is an old arguement. There are a lot of variables that play into how much you'll get, and despite those that will argue the point, there is no guarantee that you will even match the factory figures for the shorter barrel.
A chronograph is the only way you will know for sure.

Depending on the caliber 4" of barrel can give you up to 100fps or more. Hard to say exactly, the chrony will tell for shure.

The only sure why is to chop an inch off at a time and chrony.Charlie Sick, a texas gunsmith, did just that. His results sometimes were as little as 11f/s.All were under 20.So when they say 25,they are safe. But I think the misconception comes from other factors. This is only a couple of factory shots but my 22" M-700 30.06 went 2671 and my buddies 18 1/2" M-760 only went 2580. I think the reason was the M-700 was a 1980 and the M-760 was a 2003.QC

All depends on how much of the powder is used. You may get to a point where no matter how much powder you use, you will not gain velocity. The unused powder is just blowing out the barrel.
Velocity does not equal accuracy.
