I've got an 1892 (44-40) that was "sporterized" - the mag tube was cut back to just in front of the forearm. I got a new tube, barrel band and magazine spring to try and restore it (possibly from an 1894). Could someone please tell me if the original barrel band was notched to provide clearance under the front sight? The sight is what I'd describe as a "post and blade"?
Also, how long should I cut the magazine spring if the tube is 19.25" long?
