Do the barrel bands on the sporter 10/22 have any effect on accuracy? I know with centerfire rifles its usually better to have nothing touching the barrel so is it the same with a .22 LR?
I see there is a sporter 10/22 with out the barrel band is this a better option then the ones with?

Cheers!!

I have an (all weather) 10/22 that shoots better with the band off.
On the other hand, I have a standard 10/22 that shoot better with it on.
Try shooting with it on & off and see what works best.
I guess it's whatever makes your rifle the most accurate.

I remember reading years ago when the heavy barrels were getting popular for 10/22's that you should bed the barrel, not the action.

The thought was (and I thought it made sense...) That since the action is made of cast aluminium that it was not strong enough to hold a free floated heavy barrel out there with out put stress on the action. So instead of free floating the barrel, you would "float" the action so that is not too tight in the stock, and bed the full length of the barrel.

I don't know if there was any success with this method, but like I said. It seemed to make sense at the time.
