One guy's son at our moose camp uses a .243 Browning Micro Midas. It's effective on Moose to 100 yards, so I imagine with the right bullet choice (something that will penetrate -partition, barnes TSX, Accubond, etc) she could be lethal well past 200 yards. I'm sure someone with field experience will chime in, but I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger with it at my comfortable hunting ranges.
As for re-barreling, I looked into re-barreling my Browning X-Bolt hunter in 270 WSM (wanted to go heavier barrel, and have options to replace my current barrel when it was worn out). Nobody that I spoke with in Canada was able to or willing to re-barrel a Browning action. If you find someone, send me a PM, otherwise I would just keep shooting and not worry too much about it.
