Looking at opening up a barrel channel on a rubberized Hogue stock to go from regular tapered 10/22 barrel to accept a "mid" contour barrel. (not the .920) Any ideas how I could go about this? Was thinking drum sanding with drill to open it up...
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thx

You could make a frame to sit over top. And run a router down the sides to give you the width.

Only fear would be if the rubber coating will start to peel where it’s cut.

I wonder if boiling the fore stock to soften it and clamping in a appropriate side wooden dowel to flare the channel would work. Let it cool and remove the dowel.

I used that method when I played lacrosse. To pinch the heads in a bit to give you more retention on the ball when getting hacked by a defender. Used string to get the shape I wanted. Then dunk in boiling water for 30sec and let cool. Then remove the string and it would hold its shape.

I did this on a howa hogue stock.... I tried a sander... it burrs and melts and goes hard.... tried a router and it hops and melts. Getting speed right is hard. In the end I set up a jig and used a stiff exacto knife to slice the edges down... I also channelled in 2 aluminum arrow shafts and filled with jbweld resin.... stiffened it up real good.
