I'm planning a bolt gun project in .243 win.
I have a choice of 6 mm barrels to choose from. Given the following, which one would you folks recommend?
Gailard ss:
1-13.5" 4 gr
1-14"
1-15"
or Bartlein ss:
1-7.5" 5 gr
Seeing as most factory rigs are 1-10" I was leaning to using the 1-7.5"
This is going to be a long range target/varmint rifle. I will be hand loading my ammo but would still like to use factory ammo in a pinch.

If it was me I'd go for the Krieger which I have found to be an excellent barrel on my 6BR that I use in F-Class. I think the 1-7.5 will work up to the 115's if you want to go that route, I have a factory Remington 243 VLS with a 1-9.25 and like to shoot the 95 gr Hornady SST's for all my Varmint shooting and If I were going to build a 243 it would be in a AI venison with a 1-8 twist for anything from 75gr to 108 gr bullets, less case stretch.
Cheers

MY Remington 700 1-9.125" and it won't stabilize 105gr bullets under normal conditions (15C sea level).
I'm having it rebarrelled with a Kreiger 6mm 1-7.5" barrel ordered from Jerry (Mystic Precision).
Under normal condition,a 1-7.5" barrel works for bullets from 80gr up to 117gr.
Under the same conditions, a 1-8" barrel works for bullets from 70gr up to 108gr.

Thanks folks. I think I will keep the Bartlein 1-7.5" then.
Out of curiosity then, what chambering would the 1-14" or 1-15" be suited to?
they seem a bit long on the twist. I'm guessing a light bullet(68 gr)at 3200-3300 fps but...?
I'm just learning here.

1 in 13.5 is the popular twist for barts 68 grain flatbase BR bullets, and they go from 3200 to 3450 feet per second in most guns,

anything else better twist the 7.5 or 8 twist will work for your needs,

1-15" is very slow twist, most benchrest shooters use a 1-13" or 1-14" twist for 68gr FB match bullets.

You should go a take a look at Berger recommend barrel twists for different match bullets.
