Any Canadian companies that have a barrel contour duplicating profiler? Looking to exactly match a Ruger Scout barrel, as you know it has multiple scallops which are an absolute pain to replicate on a manual lathe.

There are multiple companies in the states like Pac-nor etc but you has to export your barrel to them for custom profile duplication.

I'm sure IBI could do it as they run CNC. Just measure and program. However, it's liable to cost you a fair bit as they would have to do all the legwork on that.

I am a Gunsmith, been building firearms for over 38 years. I have lots of fancy tooling including taper and shaplane tools, but THAT was NOT the question... Any professional on here familiar with the Scout barrels contours will agree it is one PIA to do in a manual lathe. I am talking from experiance - I have done it, but a barrel copier will do in 30 minutes which would take over 10 hours to do to my standards manually.

KS arms will do any contour you desire for 30 bucks

I fail to see what’s particularly difficult about that contour. It appears to use parallel sections joined with large radii. The solution would be to use a “ball turning” attachment, but instead of cutting on the inside of the arc, cut on the outside. The tool pictured below would be perfect for the task.

A competent machinist should be able to get something working without too much difficulty.

That appears to be a well thought out ball turning attachment. It would be much appreciated if you were to post a few more pics.

It’s not mine, but here are a few more. It’s from a thread on Practical Machinist. Unfortunately I don’t know how the internals work.
