Barrel coolers

Oh nice, that would be pretty cool indeed.

Edit: I remembered in time to resize it first as it was shot from a different rifle and didn’t want it getting stuck hehe

At the BC precision rifle championship several years ago, it was really hot and some of the guys put wet hotel towels on their rifles. I don't think this was a great idea but they thought it would help.

Would a whole case be ideal, or would it be better to be blowing air over the whole chamber too?

Or would a brass case increase cooling due to its relatively high conductivity? Hmmmm...

RJ et al - The advert says to only run for 15-min. Does yours run longer or just in 10-15-min sets 'when you need it' ?

It quotes 10 minutes it seems.

Thinking out loud there is a big difference between using it to pump up a mattress or similar (ie ever increasing back pressure making it work harder vs pumping up an open barrel thats vented to atmosphere and doing a fraction of the work)

On a side note I just picked up an M18 Milwaukee fan and took it to the range with me yesterday.

I put 20 rounds through my 223 and put it on the side to cool while I shot another rifle. It was probably 30 degrees yesterday and when I went back to grab it it was still pretty warm. Then I remembered I had the fan so I brought it in and got it blowing on the rifle (rifle on rack, bolt open and fan below with airflow directed up into the chamber and over the barrel.

5 or 10 minutes later and it was much cooler. Worked very well.

It does shut off after its run time I feel the barrel and if not Kool enough I just restart it.
I THINK 🤔 its way better to blow air through and Kool a barrel from the inside then the outside 👍

Interesting, so it runs for 10 minutes and then stops automatically.

How loud are these little pumps? Trying to avoid noisy, even the fan I took yesterday (which is fairly quiet) was loud enough that it affected my ability to hear my 22LR hitting the steel gongs at 300M. First world problems I know....... :D

I have a similar looking Milwaukee blower, maybe I will repurpose that and test.

It might be on the noisy side. Would prefer it wasn't noisy.
It's definitely on the noisy side but on a 30c day I need to cool down every 5 rounds and without air cooling it takes 30 min upright with the bolt open. On a positive note. If you wear nose cancelling earpro it is less abnoxius than the high pitched sound of the magnetospeed but with 20 times the airflow.

I made one of these 15 years ago using a battery operated live well airrator and some surgical tubing. I think I had all of $25.00 invested. There's no rocket science here, but the system works better if the rifle is racked and the muzzle is straight up instead of it pointing down range like say on a bench. You could probably do it for cheaper now with shopping on Amazon for the parts.

If you have a 3D printer, this one is easy to make and uses a cheap USB fan

The fan is $15 on Amazon
