My Gaillard Barrel just arrived and I was wondering what type of crown I should put on it?What are the different types and which is more accurate? Thanks

The major one are a rounded crown like you find on most hunting guns. Then there is the stepped crown where the crown is stepped in from the end of the barrel. There is also the 11 degree crown, the crown is set back at an 11 degree angle from the end of the barrel. There are many theories as to what is the most accurate. I think that general concensus is that the 11 degree gives the most accuracy.

It doesn't really matter what the style of the crown is as long as it is true with the bore and burr free...

The flat crown is the easiest to do and if the outside of the barrel is not perfectly concentric with the bore it is also the most accurate way to crown.

I prefer to finish all crowns using a piloted 60 degree chamfer reamer cutting deep enough so the chamfer is past the bore.

This is a picture of a flat recessed crown.
