Barrel dent removal for 10 bore?

Chris Wilcox, of Wilcox Gunworks is closer, in BC. He does really nice work on those old timers.

Without having seen the shotgun, is it worth repairing????

Many of those old girls are wall hangers at best, with little or no value, other than as conversation pieces.

This one is a drilling. The lockup is pretty darn solid. Buttstock replaced more recently. All small parts work as they should.
Damascus barrels made by A. Linder for the USA importer Charles Daly. In 10x10x45-70, this is BP only. Circa late 1880s or thereabouts.
But the bores are shiny and the rifle barrel has some very minor pitting, the rifling is deep with no throat/chamber erosion. If I was a betting man, I would say the rifle was shot more than the pair of shotgun barrels. But that's just my impression.
I intend to hunt this one friend.

If that were my shotgun, I would be getting it fixed as well. Chris specializes in just what you have.

Personally, and this is only my opinion, I would be very hesitant to use a repaired Damascus barrel. By the nature of their "build" I would be very suspect of the integrity of the fused iron segments after being damaged and returned to a un-damaged appearance. Even a tiny leak or weakening at the damaged spot could result in a very unhealthy experience for the shooter or a bystander.

I completely disagree about the hesitency to use a repaired Damascus barrel. One of the features of Damascus is its resiliency. I would build a tapered slug to drive through the barrel, myself, or a series of successive sizes of tapered slugs.
