Barrel Floating

So is it worth it to float a barrel on a 22lr. I'm not sure if it would have a positive or negative affect on accuracy. I have a bolt action CIL 22 that has a medium weight barrel and I was wondering if it would be worth floating it. Just put on a new scope and really havn't had a chance to fire any groups yet but was wondering if some of you have gotten results from floating a barrel?

Thanks,

I would not float the barrel right off.

Shoot the gun first, with a variety of different ammo, under good conditions and from a good rest.

After doing this if it will not shoot, then floating the barrel may be an option.

Your gun might like the way the barrel is now.

Some (most IMO) guns benefit from having the barrel free floated, but some guns like the preasure. To check if it likes to be free floated, try just putting a preassure pad at the end of the forend (an elastic band or something along those lines will work). If you find it shoots best like this, you may find free floating the whole barrel will increase accuracy.

Liberty gave some good advice as well.

well today I attempted to do some target shooting. It was a blamy -22 -30 with the wind. The wind was gusting to about 40 km/hr. I was able to shoot about an inch at 25 yards with cheap ammo. So what does that tell me....not much lol. I hope if it ever warms up I can get some decent shooting done and see how the gun does.

You are going to have to do some serious target shooting with ammo the gun likes before you can work on accurizing the gun. Improvements may be on the order of 1 or 2 10's of an inch at 50 yards.
