Hello I wondering what are my options in Canada for getting a shorter barrel for my old Ithaca Model 37 featherlight 12 gauge shotgun? I currently have a 30" full choke barrel. Can this be legally cut down? Can it have changeable chokes put in it? Does someone sell shorter replacement barrels in Canada? Your suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

You could cut the barrel, but I would not like to do that myself.Ithaca is still in business.Try contacting them for a new barrel. There is a fellow in Ontario who has a lot of parts for the old Ithaca guns.Had his address, but have misplaced it at the moment .Perhaps some one else could come up with the address and telephone number.

Barrels for the older Ithaca's aren't interchangeable. I can't remember the cut-off date, I think it's somewhere around serial #800,000?? Anyway, if it's an older gun it has to be sent back to the factory to have a barrel fitted.

I had a similar problem; I was given an old Ithaca with a 30" full choke. I had no use for it as it was, so I had the barrel cut to 22", interchangeable chokes and sights fitted. Now it's a combination slug/turkey gun. Ithaca's don't seem to hold much resale value, so don't worry too much about trashing an original.
