I'm planning to do some hunting with a long range shooting rifle. The rifle is a chromed barrel, making for a somewhat bright and shiny hunting rig. If I slip a bit of camo fabric over the length of the barrel, how adversely does that affect the harmonics of the barrel.

Bad idea?

The rifle is a .17 HMR and the hunt is a sharp eyed turkey at about 75 - 100 yards (or closer depending on my calling ability), but I'm considering doing the same style camo for a .223 for larger game (yote sized)

And no, I'm not shooting a drugunov.

We put mirage shields on our barrels and it doesn't do diddly to our accuracy or POI. As for the wrapping you plan on using, there is only one way to find out....

Of course, you could just camo the pipe with a bit of paint.

To change the harmonics you would have to add at least 1/4 lb to the muzzle.
I don't think some camo fabric will do anything.

I used black hockey tape on the barrel and reciever of my .243 81 blr once and it shot terribly. I removed it and it shot good again. I was 14 years old.

LH: Here in Ontario we hunt turkeys with shot guns or bows. Where are you that you can use the 17HMR ya lucky dog? I can't count the turkeys I could have had with my CZ 17HMR.
