Hopefully somebody can weigh in productively on this take. I have a trg-22 with a nightforce nxs 8x32-56mm with medium rings. Overall front objective clearance is about 1/8" from barrel. I notice after the barrel starts to heat up that the bottom of the objective gets a little warm followed by what seems to be parallax distortion(in and out of focus). I used a strip of cardboard as a "mirage band" and noticed that the effect of parallax distortion is less. I also had the benchrest model and noticed the same thing so i switched to the nxs to quickly compensate with the dial on the side. I used to use a mark 4 and that had a 50mm objective so the front objective had more clearance and this parallax effect thing that i am finding didn't exist. Has anybody experienced this with their nightforce scopes and front objective height. This isn't a bad eye sight thing because i let my friend shoot both nxs and benchrest models and he said the same thing. In fact it was his suggestion for a piece of cardboard as a mirage band.My options are as follows.
1- change the rings to get more clearance with the FO to barrel
2- get a legit mirage band-the cardboard strip did reduce the heat from the barrel to the FO but it was still happening
3- go back to the mark 4
Before i resort to the options, i would like to hear some takes on it if they experienced what i blogged about.
