Barrel indexing in Calgary?

Hey folks,
As the title says. I'm looking for a place to get my barrel properly indexed. Looks as if they over torqued the barrel (the front sight is knocked to the left and the op-rod and gas cylinder are out of alignment). I missed the M14 seminar that was in Calgary a few weeks ago and don't have the proper tools or know how (head spacing) to diy this on my own. Does anyone trust someone/shop in Calgary that could help me out with this? Anything else I should get done while this is being fixed (remove Chinese FH)?

Yuk yuk.... I was just there at the TSE in YYC on Sat 10 Sep. We re-indexed a whole poopload of M305's in the parking lot... right as all the Birkenstock clad hippies parked their Volvos and walked past the TSE doors. I deliberately parked in front and center so that the hippies could not avoid our 15 or so M14 lovers with barreled receivers, standing around learning how to re-index Anti Piracy belt fed machine guns bound for the Gulf of Durka Durka!

Lots of good help in the prairies. If you are stuck, just mail it to me here in Ontario... it's a 5 minute job for me to sort out!

Cheers,
Barney

Same subject, but more of a DYI question....lol
Can this be done with a proper barrel vice and a big ass crescent wrench? We have those on hand....

That's been done...
I prefer a receiver wrench because it fits snugly on the receiver. Sometimes adjustable wrenches don't hold the adjustment solidly.

Barney,
Thanks for the quick reply. I wanted to make it to seminar on September 10th but had other obligations. I'll wait a bit longer to see if i can get some help closer to home first. If nothing comes up, I may end up taking you up on your offer. I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,

If we are correcting a slight over-index, maybe 3-5 degrees, can it just be turned to index, or should we pull the barrel... lightly peen the shoulder, and reinstall?
Just wondering about removing tension affecting accuracy?

I prefer to back the barrel off, then turn it to index. If there is decent torque, I don't see a need to adjust the shoulder.

the over-indexing is done to get the proper head-spacing, and you dont want to adjust it...

If you find a webpage that sells replacement barrels for M1a, then it will describe the different types of barrels you can choose. Carbon steel barrels and Stainless steel barrels can be chamber cut to the proper head-spacing after the barrel is installed and indexed perfectly. chrome lined barrels cannot be chamber cut because the chrome lining would be cut away, and then losing the chrome-lining anti-corrosion benefit.

Wooa.....Sorry for not getting back to this post until now. I've slowly been making my way to the shops around calgary looking for help on this subject and I've had no luck. Most of them wanted nothing to do with this job on this specific rifle ( I got a lot of "it's Chinese made, what did you expect" from many of the shops in town or others just did not have the experience and did not feel comfortable doing the work)

Thanks for the comments guys. I really appreciate it all of the suggestions and other on topic discussion.

Nyksta, I'm not so lucky when it comes to my front sight plus I like to look down my gun and see a front sight vertical (it drives me nuts seeing the sight canted to hte left) so im hoping to at least attempt to get this thing re-indexed or the other option would be to take the existing front site off and replace it with an aftermarket front site at the correct position (tack weld it on?).

Barney, you're not planning on stopping though calgary again any time soon are you? Do you have plans for another m14 seminar out this way in 2017?
