sorry i'm a newbie...please help!!
what exactly is barrel indexing. if your rifle is not indexed properly how easy is it to fix. i might have this problem with my M305. i really appreciate the help. i'm loosing my mind trying to find out how bad this problem could be.
regards

Is the barrel turned in too far, or not far enough? Basically, you need a barrel vice and action wrench to reset it.

The threads are right hand, so if the front sight unit seems tipped to the left, the barrel is past index. Also there may be an alignment problem with the piston and operating rod. The barrel will need to be broken loose, then retightened to the proper index. Where are you located?

i live in norhtern manitoba. this appears to be a little more than what i be willing to fiddle with on a rifle. is this something that i could end up really messing up my rifle trying to fix?

Yes. If the barrel is tight - and it might well be, you REALLY need to have the proper tools to grab the barrel and receiver without damage. There are folks on this board who have routinely corrected this problem, but because of your location, you are going to get to pay for round trip postage. I would suggest that you make a post asking for someone to time a M305 barrel, to make sure they see it.

what do you mean by "time a M305 barrel". What will happen if i shoot my M305 before fixing this problem?
i really appreciate your help
thanks tiriaq!!

Time = index. Both refer to the barrel screwing in, properly torqued, with sights on top, gas system aligned.

Sure. If there is misalignment in the gas system, this might affect accuracy a bit. Adjusting the rear sight will compensate for the front sight being a bit off.

thanks for all your help. i ahve big hopes for my M305. i wanted to modify it into a carbine by getting the barrel cut down and putting it into a different stock. i'm thinking all the barrel work should be left to a gunsmith. hopefully the rest of the work isn't to bad.
