At the present time I'm shooting trap with a Ceasar Gurini Summit with a 34" barrel. I like to shoot Sporting Clays as well , but the 34" barrel is to much of a handful. I'd like to get another O/U for clays and skeet, but I don't know what to get, a 28" or 30" barrel. I'd appreciate any input from the members on this. Another consideration I have is that I'm not really quick on target acquisition, and I'd probably go with a Beretta.

I am not sure how not being quick on target acquisition would lead you to Beretta? From my recent observations, the trend in sporting clays seems to be 30 and 32 inches in o/u and 28 and 30 in autos. Where once 26 inch o/us seemed to be popular in skeet, most seem to be shooting the 30 and 32s. I would not make a decision on barrel length by popular opinion or opinions on this forum, including mine:D, but I would start hangng around skeet and sporting ranges and make your own observations. Clay shooters in general are a friendly helping bunch and I would not be surprised if you get the oportunity to try a few different guns and decide the length thing for yourself.

From time to time I use everything from a 28" Aya SXS, 28" Remington 870, 30" Mossberg 500, and a 30" Winchester Model 12. I prefer the 30" barrels. Not too sure why. I know my Model 12 swings like nothing else. The Mossberg is super quick. The Aya feels pretty good but something has never felt perfect about it. And the 870 just feels all wrong. But that's just me. I don't fire the expensive shotguns....... yet.

I happen to shoot a couple different double guns at skeet in 28" or a 30" and don't notice a lot of advantage either way. I do prefer the longer tubes for clays but at my club all the old timers shoot 28' barrels at skeet with great success. I think loads of practice and a well fitting gun tops everything else.
