Barrel length

So ...I bought a Tika Tac. T3 in .223( the 24 inch version). Love this gun! I just had a look at the 20 inch version a have to admit it looks really nice! Being a noob in this area of shooting sports I under the impression that a longer barrel was the way to go. What differences are there in the different sizes (aside from ease of manuvering)?

you lose a little velocity with the shorter barrel, and it may be stiffer-for longer ranges, the longer barrel is the way to go- and the 223 can use all the help it can get
