most people will tell you the same thing about your hunting rifle barrel. it will out last you if not shot continually. If target shooting, shoot only 3 shot groups or five shot groups so long as the barrel don't get hot. Over heating will cause poor barrel life as will thousands and thousands of shots throught it.
Otherwise if it works, leave it alone.
A heavy barrel is mainly for target shooting, not for hunting. The heavy barrel allows for more surface to cool quicker, thus 10 shots will see consistant accuracy where 10 shots on a stock barrel will be all over the paper.
The extra wieght of the heavy barrel for hunting is not practical in most applications.
