I have next to zero experience with precision bolters.
On pistols or semi guns, i use the OTIS system, but i fear to damage the crown of precision gun that way.

I was thinking along the lines of a dewey rod, bore guide, nylon brushes, parker hale style patch pusher, and quality solvents.

Any of the sponsors carry all of this i could make 1 order and get it all?
Am i overthinking this and OTIS system good enough for a 308 bolt action gun?

Do you only use the copper solvent or do you have a pass with a powder/carbon solvent before?

Yes the bore guide i want, is inserted breach end and fits into chamber. So when going from breach to muzzle, your rod has a contact point breach end and doesnt end up touching rifling at all

Cool, it confirms my choices
So far my purchase list is dewey rod, parker hale jag, and 7-8 nylon brushes
A nice 308 bore guide, Lucas have a nice one if i can find here
And solvent

The only undecided part is solvent.
I have plenty of hoppes #9 here, should i also use a good copper solvent or will the #9 do ot all?

I strongly recommend that you get your credit card handy and order everything at once from the Dewey web site.

You'll be sure to get matching threads and you wont need to compromise and buy what the dealer happens to have, which may not be your first choice.

Just get it over with and order the right stuff.

Dewey has no problem shipping to Canada.

Yeah i will second to try Wipe-Out or Butches Bore shine - saves a lot of time vs. using most other copper removers. These two just seem to 'work'.

Marty,
I just use the copper cutter. It smells like regular Hoppes #9, so I would guess it has a powder/ carbon solvent in it. It also has a light oily feel once the solvent evaporates, so it will protect the bore too.
If you allow an hour or two between patches, the copper will turn blue or green.

Exactly was hoppes #9 does too
I soak a nylon patch in hoppes #9, 5 passes, wait 10-15 minutes
A wet patch of hoppes #9, wait 10-15 minutes, then dry patches
After wet patch i get some blue/green stuff out
All using Otis cable, but thats for cheap semi auto rifles

+1 for recommendation going all dewey, ordered it from prophet river actually
Rod, bore guide, adapter for other thread (use anyones nylon brush), nylon brushes, parker hale jag threaded for dewey

So many solvents out there, many work and many people use different ones to same results.
Just curious what people winning matches are using

In the short range game.

You will find:

Dewey rods coated and stainless
proper jag be it brass or aluminium, I prefer aluminium
GOOD proper fitting bronze brushes (most off of the store shelf do not cut it)
Nylon brushes for the caliber and a few 1 caliber larger for cleaning the throat (when using Iosso Bore Paste)
Lucas or TK Nolan bore guides
Iosso Bore paste
Butch's, Montana Extreme, Aqua Clean, Wipe Out with the Accelarator or First Choice as solvents
I personally use Bore tech Eliminator for copper
Good oil like EEzox, few others that I just cannot remember the brand
and good bolt grease to grease the back of the lugs
quality proper fitting patches and a bore mop to wipe the chamber
Lug recess tool to clean the lug recess in the action/receiver

I think I have everything.

Dewey rods come with tj brush adapter already btw.

And I bet if you used wipe-out right after the batch would be very dark blue. Been there done that.

So you use only wipeout and it does it all?
Cleaning and cooper removal?

I know im asking lots of questions, but i can't take solvent manufacturers instructions as good information.
They are all selling products and try to sell lots of it

Yep, that's all I do. Accelerator then patch out. Tired the foaming one but it just made a mess. I also use vfg pellets instead of a bronze brush.

Is it strong to the point of damaging metal or crown if soaked too long?
If not i will buy it and put my barre maintenance procedure to rest

Yes it does it all one product for full clean.

You can leave it in the barrel for as long as you want. It also says "contains powerful and-corrocives that make it unnecessary to put oil in the barrel"

Cool
Thanks to everyone who contributed
With my full dewey rod/bore guide kit, and wipeout w/accelerator, i think i'll be off a good start to clean the bore every 300-400 rounds
