I'm in the midst of my first AR build. Bought a lefty Stag upper and putting it on a Spike's Tactical lower.

I was watching a video of an AR being put together, and they used some type of grease to install the barrel nut. He said it was to facilitate ease of removal and prevent seizing from the heat.

Anyone do this? Is it necessary? If it is, what type of grease?

Thanks.

i've never done it, and havnt had a problem removing later. i dont torque wrench the nut either, just hand tight as gas tube holds it in place.

standard moly grease.

you will have enough grease to assemble 3000 barrels for approx $3. Never bad to have some grease on hand anyway.

Always use grease inside barrel mating area of the upper receiver bore and a small dollop on the upper receiver thread. It is correct and there is no reason not to.
