Whats my best option for a quality heavy barrel. It would be in 6.5mm not sure if I want chrome moly or stainless yet (still researching) I have about 400 to spend. This doesn't include chambering, cut/crown, or install. Just the barrel blank. I could probably go to 450 if it would make a difference. Thanks in advance.

It's getting hard to buy a bad barrel these days. All the big names seem to do well. We have some excellent blanks (of course!) on the shelf, email if you are interested.

A Gaillard match quality barrel (only available in stainless) is about $375 shipped... right from Gaillard in Sask.

My buddy used to build custom rifles, he always suggested stainless barrels. Get a bit of rust in the bore and its no longer match grade. Sure we all keep our guns clean and protected, but it happens. You can even get stainless blued if you really want blue.

Iam in saskatchewan so I might have to look him up. Does he have a site I can look at? Does he have a good rep for building barrels?

He makes "match grade" barrels... they are no barrels made to a higher standard than "match grade"... a higher standard than you require..

Goggle his name "Ted Gaillard" and click on the link...

$450 will get you pretty well any barrel you want, American or Canadian. As for brands The Kriegers, Harts and Shilen barrels are very well respected and in Canada the McLelland, Gaillard and Smith (RKS) barrels are well liked.
I would try to find something suitable that is already in Canada to avoid the wait.
