barrel reboring in Canada?

Problem with reboring is that for another $100 you can have a new barrel, but works great if you need to keep the original barrel!

I contemplated reboring a couple guns, but in the long run I went with a newly made barrell, as I restalk guns it is no trouble re-inleting the barrel channel!

If I were to rebore, Ron Smith would be the fella, nice guy awnsered all my questions truthfully and recomended certain guns he would not rebore!

cheers dale Z!

I know Corlanes does not do reboring
I tried the new code# for Ron and talked to him, thanks
as mentioned on reboring it is only cost effective if there is extra value in the barrel in this case the barrel is powdercoated to match the receiver and has a muzzle brake to get both on a new barrel is +$450 also if you have good iron sights on a barrel it adds value, also Ron offers gain twist rerifling

Thats the reason I think reboring is a great option. You save $100, and you save the cost of refinishing, dont need to alter your stock for a new contour, no need for indexing extractor cuts or sights.

what is the ball park cost of a rebore .................i am looking into either a re-barrel of my rough bore 6.5mm krag .............would prefer keeping original barrel / military look if possible .

say rebore from 6.5x55 mm to 7mm mauser ?
( if safe and ok to do)

Double gun you are right for the average guy it is easier to rebore, but I have the skill set to re-inlet my stocks and at the same time up grade the open sights, 2 bonuses in my book! Also you ussually get beter barrels nowadays unless you have an old Krupp German barrel to rebore or a Swedish Borfor barrel on most older Sako`s. I do have one original barrel that need reboring, and only because I do not want to ruin the integrity of the overall look of the gun, this I will leave up to Ron Smith, very nice forthright fellow! Dale Z!

I say that 20 (thou) is plenty.

Dunno, I'm not a barrel maker. Just read the .030" min on a couple of US Gunsmith's sites.

http://www.redmansrifling.com/reboring_prices.htm was one of them...

Reboring Prices
6 groove rifling, Right Hand twists: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 18, 20, 22, 25, 30. To get a clean rebore job, there must be at least .030" difference between the old bore and the new bore.

Rebore & Rifle of Modern Barrels ................................................................... starting at $400.00
Only 30-06 to .338-06 or 35 Whelen. (Price does not include chamber work.) No Military barrels except springfields. No Stainless Barrels.

Rebore Barrel & Ream Neck of Chamber ....................................................... starting at $450.00
The shoulder of the chamber is untouched therefore leaving the headspace teh same.30-06 to .338-06 or 35 Whelen.

Also noted on a few sites was that European/military barrels only have a 50/50 chance of cutting clean.

ok 308 why not

i would accept a rebore to 308 but is that kosher to an old norwegian krag action ?

i know THERE was a thread discussing a while back on 308 krags on this site before ....
whats the ball park cost of a rebore ?

I believe that to take out the current rifling and cut new rifling, you would need to go to .030" more. So that would put you into at least a .308 bore. How about 8x57?
